Making the World Taste Good-one mallow at a time
Mallow started in a home kitchen with one rule: if it doesn't taste like something real, it doesn't ship.
It started with a dare, to take a leap of faith.
Mallow started in an inconspicuous apartment kitchen as a batch of marshmallow candy to add to Christmas cookie boxes in 2009. While vanilla is delicious, Kandice wanted a little something more interesting than good ol' vanilla and added some ground cinnamon to the mixer the last few minutes of whipping the marshmallow. The smell was heavenly and it added the depth and interest to the famously sweet treat that it so desperately needed. While newly married and living in a different state than her parents, she shipped the care package to her mom and dad and waited anxiously for their Christmas care package to arrive and hear about the marshmallows that were a new addition to the previous years boxes. Knowing her mom was a marshmallow fan she asked if the marshmallows were good. "OOOOOh they're the best!" (gotta love moms!) her mom explained lovingly on the phone..."they're even better roasted...the best marshmallows I've ever eaten!" her mom is brutally honest about food and rather picky so to get that kind of a compliment was a true honer and knowingly truthful from that source. Marshmallows became a staple yearly Christmas confection and part of the treat boxes made for friends and family members every year. The flavors would sometimes change,"Hey,.....Could you make coconut?" Her mom asked being a fan of just about anything coconut. Toasted coconut mallows had made their deubt and are one of the most popular and requested mallow flavors coveted by anyone who tries them. Why not add cocoa powder? Shoot how about Matcha, or even Sarracha? "Weird, I dare you to try that!" Kandice told herself on a whim, its just one batch who cares if its not good, it will be interesting, and it might be like fries in a Frosty, unexpectidly delicous. It turns out some people love dare flavors and others' not so much but when you dare someone, they're more inclined to do it. Don't be a chicken, you might end up liking it!
Fast forward nearly 17 years (yes 17), two kids, a year of cancer treatment (woohoo cancer free for almost 8 years,...not sure if they call it that anymore but I like to claim the title) 9 years of teaching and a strong entrepenural spirt later, Mallow was born. Out of a not so sweet place (backstory here is not that interesting, just know that there sometimes has to be a low so you can "fluff" back up) Making the world taste good seemed like a sweet idea, and who's not up for a little dare sometimes? Dare to have FAITH!, Dare to quit that job that makes you feel squashed, Dare to taste something sweet or just a little weird, because sometimes what we need is just something a little...well.....different.
We're still small. Still handmade. Still weird when we want to be. That's not changing. Having faith, taking a leap hoping that you'll bounce back after falling! Grow with me, It'll be an adventure!
